Description of the performance / Activity:

The AMI-TEA program (Comprehensive Medical Care for Autism Spectrum Disorders) located in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is an innovative pilot program in the beginning, consisting of case management for the care of health of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

This program arose in 2009 from the consideration that people with ASD received insufficient health care due to their communication, relationship and behavioral difficulties, and the difficulties of the health system in adapting to them. A Program was designed to try to overcome the barriers between the health system and patients with autism, creating a management, facilitation and support service for patients and their families, and professionalization of health workers and protocolization of processes, with the objective that this population could be attended to in its medical needs just like the rest of the population.

To achieve this, a system was established to adapt protocols, a multi-appointment system, appointments at suitable times, telephone support, staff training, and minimization of variables (staff, spaces, etc.) for patients. , which we believe has greatly facilitated, and improved, specialized healthcare for patients with ASD. With this program, Doctor TEA, we want to take another step by familiarizing the healthcare environment with new technologies so that the medical experiences of these patients do not represent an added source of stress.
